Thanksgiving for the Troops

153rd Infantry picture

One of the things that really sticks with me about Thanksgiving in the military, was the meal service on that day. The senior NCOs, First Sergeants, squadron and base commanders, and even flag officers would be serving chow to the troops that afternoon. There's nothing like having a four-star general serve up some turkey and gravy for you, even if it doesn't make up for the two-week base cleanup detail you got put on the week before.

Let's be thankful for our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters that choose to serve EVERY day for our safety and security.

This Infantry Battalion must be in the 1st Cavalry Division by the look of the hats and the unit patches on the shoulder.

Been to 3 of these, one at Ft Irwin in the Mojave Desert, wven that one was some pretty good turkey.

The cooks were always particularly proud of themselves on Turkey Day and Christmas and it was always funny to have the Battalion Commander slinging mashed potatos.

Ahh, fond memories.

Indeed! Mess hall food, whatever your branch of service, was mess hall food. Except Thanksgiving and Christmass. Then the cooks could put Grandma to shame!

Thanksgiving wishes to all, and an especial gratitude for those who have the intefrity to serve.

I know, I'm a day late, but I was busy being thankfull with my kids, grandkis, sons in law etc yesterday!
